A
Statement of Reconciliation
Ronald
Reagan once said, “There are no easy answers' but there
are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know
is morally right.”
“Let
us be sure that those who come after us will say that in our
time, we did everything that could be done. We finished the
race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.”
I’m
proud to say that throughout our campaign for the Wisconsin
State Assembly, we did just that—we finished the race,
we kept the faith. Maybe we didn’t win the prize, but
I believe we reached our goal. We had a good message; our vision
of a smaller, efficient state government that promotes and sustains
business and industry, rewards hard work, protects private property
rights and civil liberties, and looks out for our general well
being.
We
had a good plan; take that message directly to the people, bring
attention to the issues that matter most, identify practical,
common sense solutions to those issues, and present the character,
values, and qualifications of the candidate in a positive and
constructive manner.
We
had many enthusiastic supporters—and I thank each and
every one of you, from the bottom of my heart, for your support
and dedication, your financial contributions and your hard work
on my behalf, for your thoughtful words and acts of encouragement,
and above all, for your compassion and friendship.
To
be sure, it’s been an arduous journey, a roller coaster
ride of emotional ups and downs. Looking back, an effort such
as this serves to define who we are and what we believe, both
individually and collectively. Looking forward, we must continue
to clarify our identity, focus our purpose and strengthen our
resolve.
Some
may say we are powerless, that as conservatives, we’ve
lost too much in this election. A friend and supporter told
me that this election was the result of uninformed voters. I
disagree—I believe it was more a case of misinformed voters.
Information is the key and, as you’ve heard many times
before, knowledge is the power.
Those
elected to represent us must be taken to task and held accountable
for each and every action they take or word they speak. This
government must become the transparent entity envisioned by
our forefathers, and, especially here in the information vacuum
known as Northwestern Wisconsin, every media resource available
must be used to this end—newspaper ads and letters to
the editor, radio ads, flyers, newsletters, electronic media,
or perhaps some other new and innovative way to spread that
information.
“To
sit back hoping that someday, some way, someone will make things
right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat
you last - but eat you he will.”—Ronald Reagan.
Time
will pass and the memories of this campaign will fade. Out of
necessity will come opportunity once again, and how you respond
to that opportunity will define you as an individual, and us
as a community and as a country.
I’d like to close my campaign with these words from Ronald
Reagan:
“Freedom
is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't
pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought
for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
Pray
for guidance, pray for strength, pray for courage. God Bless
America!

Dear
Friends & Supporters:
We
want to thank each of you for your support and encouragement
over the many months of our campaign. This was a tough election
and although we feel that we led it honorably and with integrity,
the outcome wasn't as we had hoped. However, we must not lose
hope! Hope in our future and in the America that we love.
Know
that our job is not finished and that there is much work to
be done; we still need your help and we still need your support!
There
are fundamental differences that set apart the Republican Party
and the Democrat Party and it is now our job to make sure our
conservative voices are not lost in the victory celebrations
that are taking place. Victory doesn't equal a free pass and
we must be steadfast in challenging the status quo and speaking
up and out about the Conservative values we believe in!
