actively listening at a local event |
Over
the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting
hundreds of wonderful people from Polk, Burnett, and St. Croix
Counties, walking the streets and sidewalks, shaking hands,
and participating in many local festivals and parades.
Each
time I meet someone new they tell me what they love about their
community and what we could do to improve it. Thank you for
letting me hear you and allowing me to understand what is important
to you.
I’d love to sit down with each one of you personally and
I want to hear from you, but first let me tell you a little
about myself and why I want you to Vote for Kent on November
4th.

working on his Farm in Dresser |
I
grew up on a small farm near Rice Lake in Barron County where
I managed a herd of Simmental beef cattle. I graduated from
the University of Wisconsin - River Falls with a bachelor of
science degree in Agricultural Education and I taught high school
agriculture in the Denmark school district in eastern Wisconsin.
I
joined the service as a Navigator in the US Air Force—an
experience that took me all around the world. I’ve always
considered Wisconsin to be my home and my wife Candi and I moved
our family to rural Dresser in 1992.
I'm
currently employed as a pilot for Mesaba Airlines based at the
Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. We still enjoy farming;
we manage a small herd of cattle and farm about 200 acres of
corn, soybeans, small grain, hay, and forest products.
I
love to be outdoors! I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, hiking,
and other outdoor recreational activities. I'm a longstanding
member of the NRA, the National Arbor Day Foundation, the Wisconsin
Woodland Owners Association, and am a life member of the Wisconsin
FFA Alumni Association.
My
family has a proud and strong military heritage. Having been
preceded in military service by my grandfather, who fought in
the trenches of WWI and my father, a veteran of both WWII and
the Southeast Asia conflict, I joined the Air Force in 1984
and served in the first Iraq War. I received the United States
Air Force Air Combat medal for my service in Operation Desert
Shield and Operation Desert Storm. I'm very proud of my military
service.
The
Air Force provided a unique set of leadership skills that I
know make me the best candidate to serve our families in the
state legislature.
"I
believe in helping others so they can help themselves."

| Hurricane
Katrina |
When
Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, our family was
quick to respond. Candi and I have close family and friends
in the area, and we initiated a local relief effort collecting
donated food, clothing, and medical supplies, then traveling
south to open distribution sites in some of the hardest hit
neighborhoods of Biloxi and Gulfport, Mississippi.
I'm
a strong believer in public service and I feel compelled to
bring that belief to the families of Polk, Burnett and St, Croix
Counties in the State Assembly by listening to their needs,
taking their message to Madison, and voting their values.
Affordable
health care, lower taxes, and economic development are all issues
that families across Western Wisconsin are feeling anxiety about.
My experience and leadership, both in the military and as a
professional in civilian life, give me the tools necessary to
address these important issues.
